Holly Metals wins Boeing’s Performance Excellence Award 2012 for achieving excellent supplier performance.
Holly Metals, Inc. has announced it has received a 2012 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. Holly Metals maintained a Silver composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from Oct. 1, 2011, to Sept. 30, 2012.
This year, Boeing recognized 594 suppliers who achieved either a Gold or Silver level Boeing Performance Excellence Award. Holly Metals is one of only 441 suppliers to receive the Silver level of recognition.
Holly Metals, Inc. is pleased to announce the achievement of the coveted AS9100 Rev C Certification.
AS9100 is the internationally recognized Quality Management System standard specific to the aerospace, aviation and defense industries. This standard is strongly supported and adhered to by major aerospace OEMs and is being required by vendors within the supply chain on an increasing basis.
AS9100 certification reflects Holly Metals’ commitment to meeting and exceeding the increasingly stringent industry requirements for aerospace related products and assures products consistently meet the requirements and expectations of customer’s presenting the most challenging applications.
This certification strengthens Holly Metals’ competitive position and standardizes quality, reliability and safety processes across its aerospace programs.
AS9100 is based on the ISO 9001:2008 quality management standard, and provides 80 additional requirements and 18 amplifications specific to aerospace business operations.
According to Holly Metals, Inc., “The AS9100 certification is the standard to which aerospace suppliers are
measured and reflects the continuous improvement efforts and commitments made by our employees to deliver the highest quality products to our customers”. The AS9100 Certification highlights the company’s focus on supporting the stringent requirements of the aerospace, aviation and defense industries.

Smoked and barbecued foods are as much a part of summer as baseball and apple pie. Often, people are apprehensive to attempt smoking their own meats. But, with a little bit of knowledge, the process can be quite simple to learn. Here are some tips to use when using a charcoal smoker to smoke meats and vegetables for a cookout.
It is believed that the smoking of food dates back to the time of primitive cavemen. As caves or simple huts lacked chimneys, these dwellings could become very smoky. The primitive men would often hang meat up to dry, and it is presumed that at some point they became aware that meat that was stored in smoky areas acquired a different flavor and was better preserved than meat that simply dried out. Over time this process was combined with pre-curing the food in salt or salty brines, resulting in a remarkably effective preservation process that was adapted or developed independently by numerous cultures around the world. Until the modern era, smoking was of a more “heavy duty” nature as the main goal was to preserve the food. Large quantities of salt were used in the curing process and smoking times were quite long, sometimes involving days of exposure.
The advent of modern transportation made it easier to transport food products over long distances and the need for the time and material intensive heavy salting and smoking declined. Smoking came to be seen more as way to flavor than to preserve food. In 1939 a device called the Torry Kiln was invented at the Torry Research Station in Scotland. The kiln allowed for uniform mass-smoking and is considered the prototype for all modern large-scale commercial smokers. Although refinements in technique and advancements in technology have made smoking much easier, the basic steps involved remain essentially the same today as they were hundreds if not thousands of years ago.
